What Are Stories?
Instagram Stories are a feature within the app that allows users to share photos or short videos with their followers for 24 hours. Instagram installed the feature in 2016 after observing the success of Snapchat’s Stories. In fact, their CEO Kevin Systrom admitted: “They deserve all the credit,” before continuing “This isn’t about who invented something. This is about a format, and how you take it to a network and put your own spin on it.”
How To Create A Story
Open Instagram and tap the square icon with the plus inside. You can also slide your finger right across the screen to get to the Story feature.
Once you’ve opened the Story feature you can either record a video, take a picture or choose something from your Camera Roll by clicking on the icon in the bottom left corner.
There are so many different ways to capture a moment. These include Boomerangs, Superzoom, PhotoBooth and Multi-Capture as well as a whole roster of filters and Stickers to choose from. With such a huge variety of filters, gifs, text and music, the opportunity to create engaging and fun Stories is endless.
To find all the different Stickers available simply click on the icon with the smiley face, as shown below. Once you’ve done this, a list will appear with a host of options to add to your Story.
When you’ve finished creating your Story, click the ‘Your Story’ button to post it to your account. It will be available for your followers to view for 24 hours!
How To Use Stories To Market Your Business
The fun part about Stories is that no one expects a pristine, beautiful image or video! Instead, they can be useful for displaying the more relatable side of your business. See this as a chance to show your audience that you’re just as human as they are. A BTS (behind-the-scenes) video of the office is always a stellar choice.
Drive engagement in your Story posts by holding Q&As using the ‘Questions’ Sticker. This is an opportunity to ask your followers what they’d like to know about your business. It will also give you an insight into which areas of your business you aren’t sharing enough information on.
